Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) has partnered with the Latino Community Roundtable of Stanislaus County in a backpack drive for children in need in Stanislaus County. The goal of the drive is to collect 500 backpacks filled with school supplies by July 29.
“I want every child to arrive on the first day of school confident that they have everything they need to succeed. An important part of gaining that confidence comes in something as small as a backpack, paper and pencils,” said Senator Cannella. “I know our community is more than capable of giving the backpacks and supplies needed for the children that apply for the program. I am going to personally donate backpacks and would ask that everyone in the community join with me.”
To date, Sen. Cannella has collected nearly 100 backpacks.
Backpacks and school supplies can be dropped off at Senator Cannella’s Modesto office at 918 15th Street; all US Banks in Modesto; Oak Valley Community Bank on McHenry Avenue & Sylvan; Modesto City Schools Administration Office on Locust Street; the King Kennedy Memorial Center, 601 Martin Luther King Drive; and Familia Juarez Mexican Restaurant on Paradise Road.
The donated backpacks will be distributed at events at the King Kennedy Memorial Center, 601 Martin Luther King Drive in Modesto on Wednesday July 31 and at the Ceres Flea Market at 1651 E. Whitmore Avenue on August 4.
