State Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) today distributed 50 Christmas trees to needy families served by the Valley Mountain Regional Center and Modesto City Schools.
“The holidays are a season of giving, and I’m thrilled we can help brighten these families’ homes and holidays with Christmas trees,” said Sen. Cannella. “It’s times like these when I’m all the more grateful for the opportunity to serve in my community – a community I truly love.”
The Christmas trees were originally slated to be chipped and disposed after a vendor was unable to sell them before leaving the state. Instead, Cannella staff decided to save and donate them to needy families in the community that might not otherwise be able to afford a fresh-cut tree for the holidays. The American Lumber Company in Modesto provided lumber and labor for tree stands, and Wal-Mart donated 270 ornaments to decorate the trees.
