Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres), in partnership with the California Water Service,Company (Cal Water) distributed 100 $15 gift cards to local charities throughout Salinas good for the purchase of a turkey or any turkey product. This year’s recipients include LULAC #2995, Annual Marle Holte Dinner, Soledad South County YMCA and the Oaxacan Community in Greenfield.

Since its inception in 1988, Operation Gobble has fed hundreds of thousands of people in need. Local legislators participate by recommending charities in their districts. Donating gift certificates instead of frozen turkeys give flexibility to charities and participating families, as well as eliminates the need for delivery trucks.

“The holiday season is all about giving and in these challenging economic times, some families simply don’t have the means to provide a traditional holiday meal,” said Sen. Cannella. “Operation Gobble ensures these families experience a great holiday season, and I’m honored and proud to be a part of an event that reminds us what the holidays are really about – giving back to those who need it the most.”
