Sen. Cannella Issues Statement on Bay Bridge Hearing

Friday, January 24, 2014

State Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) today issued the following statement regarding today’s information hearing by the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee regarding the investigative report titled: “The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge: Basic Reforms for the Future”:

“After today’s hearing, I am unconvinced that there were not serious errors made in the construction of the new Bay Bridge and left many questions unanswered. The details regarding the deliberate secrecy surrounding cost overruns and design flaws outlined in the report are shocking and unacceptable. California must rebuild our aging infrastructure, such as our water system which is over 50 years old and built for a population half our current size. We will not be able to undertake these projects unless we earn the public’s trust. When officials actively work to cover up information, we all suffer.”
