Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) today issued the following statement regarding the 2012-13 budget passed by the Legislature:
“I am disappointed by the budget that was passed today. It is built on an unsound foundation, combining overly optimistic projections and the hope that Californians will raise taxes without reforms that might end this cycle of deficits. We know there are solutions that would avoid the possibility of greater mid-year cuts and reduce the likelihood of a deficit next year. Unfortunately, the political will to make hard choices from those who supported this budget was absent. This will only harm California in the long run.
“I encourage Governor Brown to take a second look and either use his line-item veto authority to bring spending down or to veto the budget altogether.”
