Sen. Cannella Issues Statement on Supreme Court Decision Requiring Release of 46,000 Inmates

Monday, May 23, 2011

State Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) today issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s 5–4 decision requiring California to release 46,000 inmates over the next two years:

“While I agree we must address California’s prison overcrowding crisis, releasing dangerous felons into our communities is shortsighted at best and a grave threat to the safety and security of our fellow Californians at worst. Government’s most important responsibility is to keep its citizens safe, and I’m extremely concerned the Supreme Court’s decision severely undermines that fundamental obligation to the people of this state.”
