Sen. Cannella Names Merced's Reno Martinelli 12th District Teacher of the Year

Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) today announced he has selected Lawrence Reno Peter Martinelli, head teacher at Cesar E. Chavez Middle School in Planada, as the 12th Senate District’s Teacher of the Year for his commitment to students.

“Reno Martinelli has provided decades of exceptional service to the children of Merced and Planada. He has demonstrated a true dedication to his students both inside the classroom and out,” said Sen. Cannella. “I am proud to recognize him as the 12th State Senate District Teacher of the Year for 2013.”

Martinelli has nearly four decades of serving the students of Merced County in all facets of education, as classroom teacher, coach, and administrator. He is the founder of the programs Change Attitude Now, which promotes positive attitudes with students to steers them away from gang involvement, and the Planada Overachievers Will Earn Rewards Program, which rewards students’ scholastic achievement and good behavior. Martinelli has served as a teacher and athletic coach for the students of Planada for the past 20 years.

Senator Cannella personally recognized Martinelli today at a meeting of the Merced County Board of Education.
