Sen. Cannella Coauthors New Water Bond for November Ballot

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) today issued the following statement following the Legislature’s passage of a new water bond for the November 2014 ballot:

“Today’s vote was a victory for all of California. We now have a water bond that is nearly one-third less than the size of the old bond yet retains 90% of the funding for new storage. The funding will allow for the construction of Temperance Flat and Sites Reservoirs. This bond also contains the necessary funding for groundwater and clean drinking water, two major issues facing the Central Coast and Central Valley.

As our state grows, our water problems will only worsen. In addition to building more storage, we have to replenish our aquifers to reduce subsidence in the Central Valley and saltwater intrusion in the Central Coast. We also have to address clean drinking water immediately. It is unconscionable that millions of Californians cannot drink water from their taps.

From the beginning, I have said that we need to keep water in the water bond and this new legislation does just that.”
